Block 2 of 12

This pattern is worked as a scrap quilt. Each block is done in different fabrics.
However, it is recommended that fabrics in each block go well with previous blocks.
Quilt Top can be done in three sizes as indicated in cutting chart below.
Sizes can be altered by adding borders if you like.
Final assembly directions will be given with block #12.
Dig in that stash or bundle of FQ's and let's get going.
Fabric Suggestion: Each block will use tthree colors.

Color A (background) should be light.
Color B should be medium or contrasting.
Color C should be dark or contrasting.

On the wrong side of the #3 color A squares, draw a center diagonal line from corner to corner.
 


Using the #3 color A squares and the color C rectangles, create four flying geese units as follows:
Place one of the marked A squares on one corner of a C rectangle and sew on the diagonal line (diagram 4).
Cut corner off leaving a 1/4" seam (diagram 5).
Press corner open and sew second square on opposite corner (diagram 6).
Cut corner off leaving a 1/4" seam (diagram 7).
Press corner open and sew second square on opposite corner (diagram 8).
Repeat this step until you have four flying geese units.

On the wrong side of the #3 color C squares, draw a center diagonal line from corner to corner.
 




Using these squares and the color A rectangles, follow the process for making flying geese from above. You will need four units as shown at right.


Using the two sets of flying geese units, create four units as shown at right.


As shown in the diagram at right, using the #2 color A and C squares, cut apart on the diagonal. Place one of each color triangle right sides together and sew on the diagonal being careful not to stretch the bias edge too much. Press seams to the dark.

Using a square-up ruler, trim to measure the size listed below.
64" x 80"
 80" x 100"
 96" x 120"
 2 1/2" sqr.
 3" sqr.
 3 1/2" sqr.

Using the HST's and #2 color B squares, create four units as shown at right.


Placing the units in proper position around the center square, assemble in rows to create the block as shown in diagram below.


The unfinished size of the block should be as indicated in chart below.

 12 1/2" sqr.
 15 1/2" sqr.
 18 1/2" sqr.
