Block 11 of 12

This pattern is worked as a scrap quilt. Each block is done in different fabrics.

However, it is recommended that fabrics in each block go well with previous blocks.

Quilt Top can be done in three sizes as indicated in cutting chart below.

Sizes can be altered by adding borders if you like.

Final assembly directions will be given with block #12.

Dig in that stash or bundle of FQ's and let's get going.

Fabric Suggestion: Each block will use tthree colors. Color A (background) should be light. Color B should be medium or contrasting. Color C should be dark or contrasting.

Cutting Instructions

#1 color A - cut 8	2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles	3" x 5 1/2" rectangles	3 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangles
#2 color A - cut 6	3" sqs.	3 1/2" sqs.	4" sqs.
#1 color B - cut 1	4 1/2" sq.	5 1/2" sq.	6 1/2" sq.
#2 color B - cut 6	3" sq.	3 1/2" sq.	4" sq.
#1 color C - cut 12	2 1/2" sqs.	3" sqs.	3 1/2" sqs.

On the wrong side of eight #1 color C squares, draw a center diagonal line from corner to corner.

Using the #1 color C squares and the color A rectangles, create four flying geese units as follows: (diagrams 1-4 are for sewing reference only and not color placement). Your unit should look like diagram 5.

Place one of the marked C squares on one corner of a A rectangle and sew on the diagonal line (diagram 1). Cut corner off leaving a 1/4" seam (diagram 2). Press corner open and sew second square on opposite corner (diagram 3). Cut corner off leaving a 1/4" seam (diagram 4). Press corner open and sew second square on opposite corner (diagram 5). Repeat this step until you have four flying geese units. diagram 1        diagram 2        diagram 3        diagram 4        diagram 5

Using one of the flying geese units and a color A rectangle, create four units as shown at right.

	As shown in the diagram at right, using the #2 color A and B squares, cut apart on the diagonal. Place one of each color triangle right sides together and sew on the diagonal being careful not to stretch the bias edge too much. Press seams to the dark. (diagram is for sewing reference only and not color placement). Your finished unit should look like diagram B.	diagram A

Using a square-up ruler, trim to measure the size listed below.

64" x 80"	80" x 100"	96" x 120"
2 1/2" sqr.	3" sqr.	3 1/2" sqr.

Using the HST's and the remaining color C squares, create four units as shown at right.

Placing the units in proper position around the center square, assemble in rows to create the block as shown in diagram below.

The unfinished size of the block should be as indicated in chart below.
